Nia & Nick

Nick and Nia got married at the Brown Family Homestead in Washington. They were so much fun to work with and the location was absolutely perfect!

Helen and I traveled down from Whistler into Washington with my van on Friday. We envisioned spending some time there hiking but had an unpredictable 3 hour wait at the border line. When we arrived we spent some time walking around the venue to get ready for the following day. We were so impressed with the Brown Family Homestead. It is tucked away in the mountains with lush fields, wildflowers and horses.

Helen and I spent the night on the side of a mountain pass right beside a river. It was a beautiful location to wake up to. The next morning we decided to explore the strange Bavarian town called Leavensworth. We ended up floating down the river for a couple of hours. It was such a fun way to explore the area. The wedding took place in the afternoon and after such a relaxing morning we felt ready to start the day!

Nia and I went to the University of Guelph together. We took Landscape Architecture and hadn’t seen each other since we graduated 4 years ago. It was so great to see her again and meet Nick, a fisherman from Alaska.

We met them in the afternoon at the venue. It was a perfect day for the wedding with blue skies and a warm breeze. The two seemed so genuinely relaxed together in the morning, they had picked most of the greenery and done all of the table placements themselves. Everything looked amazing.

Helen went with Nick to take some photos of the men getting ready. She got some amazing shots inside the rustic little barn.

I went with Nia inside the family home on the farm. It was a quaint farm house with beautiful details. Nia did her own hair and makeup then proceeded to help everyone else get ready. I loved how relaxed everyone was, it made shooting easy and enjoyable.

The ceremony took place at the top of the farm overlooking the mountains. The setting was rustic and simple with a beautiful alter and wooden benches. After the ceremony we walked down to the marquee. Dinner was served as the jazz band played.

During dinner, Helen and I stole Nia and Nick away from the party for some golden hour photos. The Brown Family Homestead is the an amazing location for golden hour. Just steps away from the tents we got some of our favourite photos. The light was coming over the mountains and lighting up the wild flowers.

After dinner and speeches Nick and Nia had their first dance on the green beside the tents. The setting was perfect for photos.

Helen and I had such a great time photographing this wedding. It had everything from a beautiful venue to the lovely humans we met. Thanks again to Nick and Nia for inviting us to photograph their wedding!
