Tyax Lodge Elopement

When I first moved to Whistler 7 years ago I worked as a zip line guide at The Adventure Group. I met so many of my good friends there and one of them is Marika. Another friend of mine introduced me to his high school best friend Zakhar. As I got to know both of them better separately I started to think that they would get along really well. They had the same sense of humour and interest in adventures. When they met a few months later the rest was history.

Early into my career as a wedding photographer I asked these two to model for me as a couple getting married for my portfolio. So a month into their relationship Marika put on a wedding dress and Zakhar dressed in a tux and I practiced taking photos of them at Green Lake in Whistler. From then on we have skied and surfed down the west coast of the US together and spent countless weekends in Tofino sleeping in our cars and vans. I absolutely adore these two’s relationship. They love each other so much and I am so happy to see them so happy together.

I took their engagement photos last winter so I was so excited when they invited me to Tyax Lodge to take their elopement photos. They eloped on the dock with mountains all around them after a week long backcountry biking trip. The people they met on the biking trip ended up at the lodge at the same time as the elopement so came to celebrate! We then took their bikes out to a little hut to take photos in the mountains.. When we got back to the Lodge we hot tubbed and swam in the lake.

I don’t think I can fully explain how lucky I feel to have these two as friends and to have been there for a lot of their journey. Congrats to these two on their elopement I loved being invited to photograph it!
